Here’s the video of yesterday’s press conference at which state Senate candidate/former Assembly staffer Monica Arias Miranda condemned a “culture of perversion” at the Capitol that fosters – if not outright encourages – sexual harassment, and called for a full-scale investigation by the state attorney general or an outside independent entity.

Arias Miranda is running for the newly-created 63rd Senate seat in the Capital Region, (the 46th SD). She’s one of three Democrats vying – along with Cecilia Tkaczyk and Thomas Dolan – to face off against Republican Assemblyman George Amedore in November.

She rejected the suggestion that she was trying to piggyback on the media attention the Lopez scandal has generated in hopes of boosting her own chances of success in this Thursday’s primary, insisting: “Any hope I had at public office is probably dead now.”

Arias Miranda did not accuse Lopez of doing anything to her, nor did she say anyone every touched her while she worked for the Assembly as a Ways and Means Committee staffer from 2006 to 2010. Instead, she alleged that she was repeatedly subjected to verbal abuse and that female staffers were treated like “like little servants.”
