Saratoga County Clerk Kathy Marchione was up 106 votes heading into today’s counting of absentee ballots in Rensselaer County and Washington County. Now she is up 110.

She picked up 3 votes when the ballots were counted in Rensselaer County. There were 21 ballots that were objected to, so there is room for some movement there.

In Washington County Marchione picked up one vote.

One Monday they will count the absentee ballots in Saratoga County and Columbia County. There is a little more than 400 absentee ballots to be counted in Saratoga Co. and about 240 absentee ballots in Columbia Co. So, in order to overcome Marchione, McDonald would have to win slightly less than 60% of the remaining votes to surpass Marchione.

Historically the absentee’s closely reflect what happened at the ballot box. McDonald narrowly won in Saratoga County on election day. The two were virtually dead even in Columbia County on election night, but they haven’t recanvassed the ballot boxes yet. The Columbia Co. BOE plans to do that tomorrow.
