Former Gov. George Pataki doesn’t want to be a pundit — at least when it comes to the state Senate.

Pataki, who campaigned with Republican House candidate Matt Doheny and said he was going to be voting for state Sen. Stephen Saland tomorrow, wouldn’t go out on a limb when it came to the closely divided chamber.

“You ask the political experts that,” Pataki said.

Pressed a little bit on the question, Pataki demurred.

“No, I’m not a political expert. I try to do work for the people. The political experts are in the background.”

The Senate is divided 33 to 29 in favor of the GOP.

Pataki was a senator for a single term before he was elected governor in surprise 1994 upset election against Mario Cuomo.
