The state Assembly earlier today approved a two-year ban on high-volume hydrofracking that specifically targest the Marcellus and Utica shale formations.

The bill would also require a SUNY school of public health to conduct a health assessment of the process.

The one-house bill passed 103-40, a slightly wider margin than what was needed to pass the minimum wage increase on Tuesday. Three Republicans — Brian Curran, Mark Johns and John Ceretto — backed the moratorium. Two Democrats, Dov Hikind and Robin Schimminger, voted no.
