The state police are delaying the implementation of part of the SAFE Act that would have required background checks on ammunition sales. This part of the law was supposed to go into effect January 15.

But state police say they need more time to put together the database that sellers will use to do the checks.

New York State Rifle and Pistol Association President Tom King says this is more proof the law was passed too quickly.
