Republican former U.S. Sen. Al D’Amato in Time praised U.S. Sen. Kirsten Gillibrand, writing that she is presidential material.

D’Amato, now a high-powered lobbyist, wrote the profile of Gillibrand for the magazine’s “Time 100” list of influential people. In 2012, former Pennsylvania Gov. Ed Rendell wrote a similar piece for Gov. Andrew Cuomo.

D’Amato writes of Gillibrand that she’s not to be underestimated and praised her for her work on curtailing sexual assault in the military.

“She can go as far as she likes,” D’Amato says. “If Kirsten Gillibrand wants to be a rock star, she’ll be a rock star. But she’d make a great President. When she draws a line in the sand, everyone knows not to cross it.”
