Republican gubernatorial candidate Rob Astorino on Monday released his first TV ad of the campaign on Monday, knocking Gov. Andrew Cuomo’s handling of the state’s tax climate and economy through a baseball metaphor.

But Astorino, the Westchester County executive who faces Cuomo’s $33 million war chest, also needs some help keeping the ad on TV.

His campaign sent out a fundraising appeal Monday afternoon drawing supporters’ attention to the ads, and made an appeal for money.

“New York ranks dead last 50th in all the important categories under Andrew Cuomo, and we need your help to spread the message,” Astorino’s fundraising email says. “TV ads are expensive and we cannot stay on the air without your support. Please consider contributing $25, $50, or $100 and together, let’s put New York back in the winning column.”

Cuomo and state Democrats, meanwhile, have been able to saturate the airwaves with ad touting the governor’s first term and, alternatively, slamming Astorino’s record in the suburban county.
