The super PAC founded by Republican political strategist Karl Rove is taking aim at GOP Congressional candidate Matt Doheny, who is competing against Elise Stefanik in a primary for the NY-21.

The ad from American Crossroads slams Doheny as a candidate who has run several times for the area’s Congressional seat and lost, and even tosses in lawsuits and his drunken boating charges (all are things voters likely have known about him to begin with).

The ad is called “Mistakes” and will air on cable and broadcast stations in the Albany, Watertown and Plattsburgh media markets in a $242,000 ad buy beginning today.

“Local Republicans are uniting behind Elise Stefanik as the kind of exciting, conservative leader who can win and hold this seat,” said Steven Law, president and CEO of American Crossroads. “Elise will be a champion for lower taxes, smaller government and dismantling Obamacare.”

Keep in mind American Crossroads doesn’t have the best track record at picking winning candidates in the last election cycle.

Stefanik has had significant support from national political figures. Rep. Paul Ryan, the 2012 candidate for vice president, appeared at a closed-door fundraiser for Stefanik on Monday.
