Former New York Yankees pitcher and Watertown resident Tommy John recorded a robocall for North Country congressional hopeful Matt Doheny, his campaign on Monday announced.

The call can be heard here.

“One thing I learned from my years playing is to make it to the big leagues you need to work hard and have a plan,” John says in the call. “That’s why I’m calling on you to vote for my good friend Matt Doheny. Matt has what it takes to make a difference for you in Congress. He is a tireless worker and he has a real plan to bring good jobs back to the North Country.

And naturally, there’s a baseball metaphor used:

“So tomorrow hit a grand slam, get off the bench, vote for the North Country and vote for Matt Doheny.”

Doheny is running for the Republican nomination in the sprawling 21st congressional district against Elise Stefanik.

Democrat Aaron Woolf and Green Party candidate Matt Funicello are also running for the seat being vacated by Democratic Rep. Bill Owens.
