As he travels to New York next week to appear at a fundraiser for Republican gubernatorial candidate Rob Astorino, Texas Gov. Rick Perry is making a detour to Long Island to help raise money for the GOP opponent of Rep. Steve Israel.

Perry will headline the fundraiser for attorney Grant Lally on Tuesday, with tickets ranging from $100 to $1,000, according to an invitation.

The event on Long Island is in the morning. In the afternoon that same day, Perry is due to travel to the other end of the state, where he’ll appear with Astorino and the 2010 Republican nominee for governor, Carl Paladino, for a fundraiser in Buffalo.

Lally has an uphill climb: Israel is the chairman of the Democratic Campaign Congressional Committee.

But Perry fundraising for the DCCC chairman’s opponent, as well as helping out a gubernatorial candidate being spurned by New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie, could only help the Texas governor as he is expected to make a second bid for the presidency.
