A tipster this morning says they received a robo call from the gubernatorial campaign of Zephyr Teachout, the Fordham Law professor challenging Gov. Andrew Cuomo for the Democratic ballot line.

The phone call’s caller ID came up as a Suffolk County phone number.

In the call, Teachout says she will ban high-volume hydrofracking, shore up small business and touts her endorsements from the Sierra Club and the New York state chapter of the National Organization for Women.

Phone calls like these allow campaigns to target individual voters.

And better yet, for campaigns that are running shoestring budgets, they’re cheap compared to the blunt instrument that is a TV ad.
