Republican Westchester County Executive Rob Astorino criticized Senate GOP lawmakers on Tuesday for not moving to have Senate Majority Leader Dean Skelos step down from his leadership post as he fights corruption charges.

“If Albany’s politicians showed the same sense of urgency and commitment to protect taxpayers and rescue the economy as they do to protect and rescue indicted colleagues, New York would lead the nation in growth and prosperity instead of corruption, taxes and population loss.”

Republicans met for three hours on Monday night and emerged to announce the conference was standing by Skelos as leader, despite the charges. Not all Senate Republicans are supportive of Skelos staying on as leader, however, including Sen. John Bonacic.

As Liz noted yesterday, there is little love lost between Senate Republicans and Astorino, the party’s 2014 nominee for governor.
