The Citizens United Political Victory Fund endorsed on Wednesday Republican Claudia Tenney, the state assemblywoman who is running a second primary bid against incumbent Rep. Richard Hanna.

The group is the affiliated political action committee of the group Citizens United. The endorsement includes a $5,000 contribution to Tenney’s campaign.

“Claudia Tenney is a principled conservative change agent who will go to Washington with her constituent’s priorities as her paramount concern,” said David N. Bossie, President of Citizens United. “Assemblywoman Tenney is a pro-small business, pro-Second Amendment, pro-life conservative reformer who will be an effective leader in New York’s 22nd congressional district.”

The group also knocked Hanna’s record as a moderate-to-liberal member of the House Republican conference on issues like abortion and same-sex marriage.

Hanna has also drawn the ire of conservatives after he suggested in a radio interview earlier this year the investigation into the Benghazi terrorist attack was an effort to politically discredit Democratic presidential candidate Hillary Clinton.

“Rep. Hanna’s recent comments assaulting the investigation into the Benghazi terrorist attacks are shameful,” Bossie said in the statement. “The victim’s families and the American people deserve to know the truth and facts about the death of these heroes. As a Marine Mom, Claudia Tenney will support initiatives that protect and defend our military and Foreign Service workers from peril.”
