Putnam County Executive MaryEllen Odell and Westchester County Executive Rob Astorino on Monday endorsed Republican congressional candidate Phil Oliva in the 18th House district.

Oliva is a top aide to Astorino, the Republican nominee for governor in 2014. Oliva also helped write Astorino’s economic platform during the campaign.

“I’m proud to enthusiastically support Phil’s campaign because he is grounded and principled,” Astorino said. “Washington won’t change Phil. We can count on Phil to change Washington.”

The Republican primary field in the Hudson Valley district is a crowded one: In addition to Oliva, five GOP candidates have filed for the June primary.

“Phil is good on the issues, he has the right experience and he is very personable,” Odell said in the statement. “He has a great chance to win the seat this November and I look forward to helping him do so.”

Democratic incumbent Sean Patrick Maloney is running for a third term in the district.
