The political action committee that has been pushing for the passage of a bill that would make it easier for survivors of childhood sexual abuse to file lawsuits has hired a consultant with Republican ties.

The Fighting for Children PAC has hired Justin McCarthy to provide advice on the push for the passage of the bill, the Child Victims Act.

“Justin McCarthy with 22 years in service to the NYS Senate on criminal justice issues has been hired to help advice me on progressing the Child Victims Act in the Senate,” said Gary Greenberg, the PAC’s founder and Greene County businessman.

“Justin who I have personally known will give victims a strong voice with Republican Senators and can address the Senators concerns.
I have known Justin for many years and have the up most confidence in his ability to keep the Child Victims Act in the 2019 state budget.”

Greenberg, a survivor of sexual abuse himself, has endorsed and contributed to candidates who have endorsed the bill.

The hiring comes as the bill remains stalled in the Republican-controlled Senate amid opposition from scouting organizations and the Catholic Church over the legislation’s impact.
