A pair of Democratic organizations on Thursday endorsed Cynthia Nixon’s campaign for governor.

Nixon was endorsed by the Staten Island Democratic Association and the Coalition for a District Alternative. The groups also endorse Jumaane Williams, who is running for lieutenant governor in a Democratic primary.

“It is inspiring and humbling to see so many democratic groups take a stand for bold change and new leadership. The fight to reclaim our state starts at the local level with the help of grassroots activists fighting on the frontlines,” Nixon said. “I look forward to fighting alongside them to make our shared vision of a fairer, more progressive New York a reality all across this state.”

Nixon, an advocate for public education issues and an actress, is challenging Gov. Andrew Cuomo in a Democratic primary for governor this September.

Nixon earlier this week was endorsed by Our Revolution, a group that was formed out of the presidential campaign of Vermont Sen. Bernie Sanders.
