From the Morning Memo:

Democrats in the 39th Senate district are lining up behind the bid of Assemblyman James Skoufis for the seat being vacated by retiring Republican Bill Larkin this fall.

The district in the Hudson Valley is a top target to be flipped for Democrats this fall as the party seeks to gain a working majority in the narrowly divided chamber.

“I am thankful to the Orange, Rockland and Ulster Democratic Committees for their unanimous support,” Skoufis said.

“Working together, we have the opportunity to move the Hudson Valley forward and create greater opportunities for working families and residents. As a State Senator, I look forward to building upon my record of working with all parties to cut taxes, deliver record school funding and fight corruption.”

Skoufis has received the backing of the three county committees in the district, Orange, Rockland and Ulster, in the days since he announced his campaign.

“James Skoufis has been a dedicated representative in the Assembly for residents in Orange County and I know that he will deliver for all residents in the 39th State Senate District,” Orange County Democratic Committee Chair Brett Broge said. “I look forward to working hard to get him elected this November.”

On the Republican side, candidates Tom Basile, a Stony Point councilman and Orange County Legislator Mike Anagnostakis are facing each other in a primary.
