Broome County Executive Jason Garnar on Wednesday endorsed Democratic congressional candidate Gareth Rhodes in the multi-candidate field for the 19th district nomination.

“I am proud to support Gareth Rhodes for New York’s 19th Congressional District,” Garnar said. “He is making the people of this district a priority, listening to the needs of our residents and town and village leaders. He cares about our communities and in fact, he is the only candidate that has visited Broome County. Gareth has the government experience and with his leadership, communication skills and hard work ethic, I am confident that he will move this area in the right direction.”

Rhodes is a former aide to Gov. Andrew Cuomo running for the Democratic nomination to compete against Rep. John Faso, a freshman Republican, in the competitive Hudson Valley House race.

Rhodes recently completely a 163-town tour of the district.

“It is an incredible honor to receive the first endorsement of a NY-19 County Executive, Jason Garnar, a great leader and public servant who is doing incredible work here in Broome County,” Rhodes said. “From day one, we’ve been running a different kind of campaign, quite literally in the case of Broome County—I first came to Sanford on this campaign to run in Deposit’s Annual Trout 5K.”

We know that this congressional district isn’t just the Hudson Valley and the Catskills. Folks in Broome County deserve a representative who will show up and listen, and who will fight for them in Washington. With County Executive Garnar’s endorsement, I know we will turn out voters in every corner of this district on June 26.”
