From the Morning Memo:

Democratic state Senate candidate Robert Jackson’s campaign on Monday will roll out an endorsement from the labor group United Auto Workers Region 9A in his primary bid against incumbent Marisol Alcantara.

“Robert Jackson has been an unwavering advocate for working men and women, and we have no doubt which side he is on,” said Julie Kushner UAW Region 9A Director.

“With the labor movement under attack nationwide, Robert Jackson is someone we can count to be there fighting side-by-side with us. A union organizer, he has proven himself to be an effective fighter to improve our schools, protect affordable housing and stand up to make sure all workers are treated fairly and afforded the rights they deserve. We are proud to endorse him today and are confident that he will be an effective representative for UAW members, and all New Yorkers.”

Jackson, a former city Council member, is challenging Alcantara in a Manhattan Senate district that has been the site of previously crowded Senate primaries. Alcantara is a former member of the now-dissolved Independent Democratic Conference and is one of several ex-IDC members who continue to face primary challenges this September.

“I am honored to have the support of UAW Region 9A,” Jackson said.

“UAW has been a strong advocate for workers’ rights and for civil rights and I’m excited to add them to our growing list of labor supporters. This is another sign of the momentum we are feeling as we build a large and diverse grassroots campaign that is moving this campaign forward. I look forward to campaigning side-by-side with them as we work to finally fully fund our public schools, protect affordable housing and build a real, progressive majority in the State Senate to make a difference for families today, and generations to come.”
