Lt. Gov. Kathy Hochul’s re-election campaign was endorsed Wednesday by the politically active labor union 1199SEIU, an organization that has proven to be a key ally for Democrats running statewide.

Hochul is seeking a second term with Gov. Andrew Cuomo and faces New York City Councilman Jumaane Williams in a Sept. 13 primary.

“The conservative Washington agenda and an activist Supreme Court are on the attack and determined to undermine the progress of union labor,” Hochul said.

“The Republican establishment continues to push an extreme agenda focused on taking away the healthcare of millions of Americans and trampling on the rights of workers. During my time in Congress, I stood up for organized labor and voted to protect the Affordable Care Act more than 40 times. As a proud daughter and granddaughter of union workers the endorsement from 1199SEIU has special meaning for me.”

Hochul has landed several union endorsements, including 32BJ SEIU, RWDSU, DC9 IUPAT, Laborers International of North America, UFCW Local 1500, New York City Building Trades, the United Auto Workers, and the New York State AFL-CIO.

“199SEIU United Healthcare Workers East proudly supports the re-election of Lieutenant Governor Kathy Hochul,” said Gabby Seay, the 1199SEIU Political Director. “Kathy has a proven track record of advocating for New York’s working men and women. We look to her to continue fighting for the issues important to our members, including quality affordable health care for all.”
