Democratic state Senate candidate Karen Smythe on Tuesday will receive the endorsement fo the Teamsters Local 445, a union that represents more than 3,400 members in the Hudson Valley.

“I’m proud to be endorsed by Teamster Local 445 and their hardworking members,” Smythe said in a statement.

“I have worked to create good local union jobs, and as State Senator, I will support our brothers and sisters in labor. I’m committed to ensuring the Dutchess and Putnam counties have well-trained workers and good paying jobs to move our economy forward.”

Smythe is running for the Poughkeepsie-area Senate seat held by Republican Sen. Sue Serino.

“Karen Smythe is the leader working men and women deserve,” said Barry Russell, the local’s president. “She will defend workers’ rights and advocate for good jobs in our community. We are proud to endorse her for State Senate and will work hard to get her elected.”

Smythe has previously been given a nod from several labor groups, including the AFL-CIO, the Public Employees Federation, the New York State United Teachers and the Building and Construction Trades Council of Greater New York & Hudson Valley.
