The metropolitan region political action committee for Civil Service Employees Association is backing former Gov. Eliot Spitzer for city comptroller.

CSEA said in a statement the support for the scandal-scarred former governor stemmed from his “strong record” as attorney general and governor.

CSEA, which has had difficult relationship with Gov. Andrew Cuomo, it worked “productively and respectfully” with Spitzer when he was a statewide elected official.

Cuomo and Spitzer are not political allies.

The PAC’s statement:

CSEA’s NYC Region Political Action Committee has endorsed Eliot Spitzer for New York City Comptroller. The decision was based on Spitzer’s strong record of accomplishment as the “Sheriff of Wall Street” during his time as New York State Attorney General and Governor. The region political action committee is made up of union rank and file activists. CSEA worked productively and respectfully with Spitzer when he served in statewide office.
