He may not even face Sen. Greg Ball in the general election, but Democrat Justin Wagner is already taking the Putnam County Republican to task for his opposition to the 2013 gun control law known as the SAFE Act.

Wagner’s campaign today released a video that shows news reports of mass shootings interspersed with Gov. Andrew Cuomo making his case for the law. In between Cuomo speaking Ball is shown on the Senate floor regretting that he couldn’t vote against the law twice.

The video cuts to Ball debating Queens Democratic Sen. Mike Gianaris on Fox News.

Wagner’s video concludes: “Greg Ball is unhinged.”

This will be Wagner’s second attempt to snatch the Senate seat for the Democrats this fall. He lost to Ball in 2012, 51 percent to 49 percent.

Ball has not ruled out running for Putnam County executive instead of seeking a third term in the Senate.

“One year ago today a large majority of Senators, including Democrats and a number of Republicans, came together to support Governor Cuomo’s NY SAFE Act – a law that bans assault weapons, protects our first responders and strengthens background checks to prevent criminals and the mentally ill from gaining access to guns,” Wagner said.
