State Comptroller Tom DiNapoli on Monday endorsed Democratic Sen. Adriano Espaillat in his primary campaign.

“In the New York Senate, Adriano Espaillat has been a tireless advocate for affordable housing and immigrant rights, while fighting to strengthen the rights of workers throughout his district,” said DiNapoli in a statement. “I’m proud to endorse him and hope the voters of the 31st Senate District will join me in supporting him on September 9th.”

Espaillat, who launched a second, failed bid to unseat Rep. Charlie Rangel in a Democratic primary in June, faces former city Councilman Robert Jackson in a September primary.

DiNapoli’s endorsement comes after Espaillat was endorsed by the United Federation of Teachers as well as Gov. Andrew Cuomo.

“Comptroller DiNapoli understands the economic challenges that many families in this district are facing, and we’ll keep working together to fight for vulnerable New Yorkers,” Espaillat said. “From raising the minimum wage, to expanding workplace protections, I am committed to strengthening the rights and economic security of all New Yorkers.”
