From the Morning Memo:

The political action committee that is pushing for the approval of the Child Victims Act has endorse Democratic Senate hopeful Leslie Danks Burke.

The Fighting for Children PAC has been endorsing candidates in legislative races this year in an effort to approve the bill, a measure that would make it easier for survivors of childhood sexual abuse to file lawsuits.

“We need more advocates like Leslie Danks Burke in the State Senate to fight for families in the Southern Tier and Finger Lakes, and all across New York,” said Fighting for Children PAC founder Gary Greenberg. “As the next State Senator for the 58th District, Leslie will be a powerful ally in the fight to hold perpetrators of sexual abuse accountable, regardless of when the crime occurred.”

Danks Burke is running for the Senate seat held by Republican Sen. Tom O’Mara in the Southern Tier region of the state.

“I am proud to be endorsed by Fighting for Children PAC and help take up the fight to end these arbitrary limitations on victims’ access to justice,” she said in a statement.

“Allowing perpetrators of sexual abuse go unpunished is a great moral failing of our legislature and a stain on the state’s proud record of standing up for the voiceless and victimized in our society. As State Senate, I will do everything in my power to right this wrong and pass the Child Victims Act.”
