Democratic congressional candidate Antonio Delgado on Monday announced his official entry into the race for the 19th congressional district.

The Democratic field is an increasingly crowded one to take on Republican Rep. John Faso in the Hudson Valley.

“I’m running for Congress because Washington is more concerned with preserving power than with helping our neighbors achieve the American Dream,” said Delgado. “My parents both worked full-time and seized every opportunity America provided to pull our family up into the middle class, but that dream is now out of reach for far too many people. It’s time to bring a new set of priorities to Washington and put the American Dream back in reach for families in the Hudson Valley and Catskills.”

Delgado made the bid official in an announcement video.

His entry comes as Faso has been criticized by liberals and Democratic figures like Gov. Andrew Cuomo for his support for the Republican-backed health care legislation.

Faso has included a component in the measure designed to shift the Medicaid burden from county governments to the state government, a move aimed at reducing property taxes.
