One of the top-ranking Republicans in the state Senate on Thursday endorsed Sen. John DeFrancisco’s bid for governor: Senate Finance Chairwoman Cathy Young.

“Experience. Vision. Commitment. Integrity. These qualities define the character and the career of my friend and colleague, Senator John DeFrancisco, who I enthusiastically endorse for Governor of the State of New York,” she said in a statement. “During his 25-year tenure in the Senate, he has been a tireless advocate for initiatives aimed at spurring job growth and economic opportunity in every corner of New York, but particularly upstate which has been his lifelong home. Landmark laws he authored have enhanced the health, safety and quality of life for countless New Yorkers.”

DeFrancisco, the deputy majority leader in the chamber, is facing Assembly Minority Leader Brian Kolb and former Erie County Executive Joel Giambra for the GOP nomination.

DeFrancisco said in an interview on Fred Dicker’s Focus On The State Capitol earlier on Thursday that he expects Senate Majority Leader John Flanagan to endorse him in the coming days.

Flanagan defeated DeFrancisco in the intra-conference vote in 2015 for the majority leader post.
