Citizen Action of New York on Tuesday endorsed Cynthia Nixon in her Democratic primary bid against incumbent Andrew Cuomo.

“Citizen Action of New York has been instrumental in fighting against the corrupting influence of big money in our democracy and advocating for quality education and health care for all,” Nixon said. “I am so proud to receive the endorsement of Citizen Action of New York and look forward to fighting alongside their members across New York.”

The group is the latest left-leaning organization to back Nixon’s campaign over Cuomo, who is seeking a third term. On Monday, Nixon was endorsed by New York Communities for Change and Bertha Lewis, a co-founder of the labor-aligned Working Families Party.

“Citizen Action is endorsing Cynthia Nixon for Governor because we trust her to make the choices that will support working families across New York,” said Karen Scharff, executive director of Citizen Action of New York. “For 17 years, Cynthia has partnered with us to make sure every child in New York gets the quality education they need. Now, we’ll be fighting alongside her to achieve her bold vision for a New York that works for all.”

The group has ties to the Alliance for Quality Education, a public education advocacy group who Nixon has worked closely with and has been deeply critical of Cuomo. The groups share office space in Albany and board members.

The network of liberal groups’ criticism has frustrated Cuomo over the years.

“One head of the hydra endorses the candidate being propped up by the another head of the hydra and they want to talk about what’s rigged!” complained one Democratic insider.
