A trio of Democratic clubs in New York endorsed the re-election of Gov. Andrew Cuomo, his campaign announced Friday.

Cuomo was endorsed by The Martin Luther King Jr. Democratic Club, the Benjamin Franklin Reform Democratic Club and the Hell’s Kitchen Democrats. Cuomo is seeking a third term this year.

In their endorsements, the clubs pointed to Cuomo’s push for a $15 minimum wage, the legalization of same-sex marriage and gun control legislation.

“New York is leading the way forward in fighting the destructive, ultra-conservative policies of rapid Republicans, led by Donald Trump, who have launched an assault on New York,” Cuomo said.

“Now more than ever, we need to stand up and fight for our core values of fairness, justice and equal opportunity. Working together we will build on all that we’ve achieved and continue to lift up New Yorkers by investing in our infrastructure, passing the DREAM Act, enacting campaign finance and voting reform, and further strengthening New York’s nation-leading gun safety laws. I’m honored to receive the support of these organizations and look forward to building on what we’ve accomplished working together.”

Cuomo faces Cynthia Nixon, an actress and public education advocate, in a Democratic primary this September.
