From the Morning Memo:

Democratic congressional candidate Gareth Rhodes today will announce a key labor union endorsement, picking up the backing of the Communication Workers of America Local 1120.

The union has nearly 2,000 active members in the 19th congressional district, the home of a crowded Democratic primary.

The endorsement is formally being unveiled at noon at the Local 1120’s headquarters.

“For too long the working men and women in this country have had no voice in Congress,” said Local 1120 President Frank Fauci. “We have been left behind. Gareth’s working class and deep local roots, record of public service and government experience, and shoe-leather approach to campaigning make him the most electable candidate. And we know Gareth will be the voice for the hard working families in the Hudson Valley and beyond and will be our champion in Washington.”

Rhodes is competing for the party’s nomination to challenge Republican Rep. John Faso in Hudson Valley House seat, expected to be a among the top-tier battleground races this fall.

A union endorsement in a crowded primary is helpful, if not vital, to stand out in a primary contest.

“I am so proud to stand with CWA Local 1120 in our fight for working men and women, to stand up to special interests and corporate greed, and restore dignity and economic opportunity in America,” Rhodes said in a statement.

“CWA has been on the forefront of defending our democracy and fighting the extreme right-wing agenda being pushed by John Faso, Paul Ryan, and President Trump.”
