Two House representatives from New York on Thursday endorsed New York City Public Advocate Tish James’s campaign for attorney general.

The endorsements from Reps. Greg Meeks and Adriano Espaillat both came as Democratic Rep. Sean Patrick Maloney announced he would seek the party’s nomination, making him the fourth candidate in the race.

On the Republican side, Keith Wofford is running unopposed.

“Throughout her career, Public Advocate Tish James has always defended the rights of New Yorkers and I am proud to endorse her for Attorney General,” Meeks said. “With our work in Washington more challenging than ever, we need the strongest leaders fighting for New York values. As Attorney General, I know that Tish will always stand up to Trump’s attacks and never back down on her commitment to move us forward.”

Maloney, a three-term member of Congress from the Hudson Valley, is entering the race with a large advantage in fundraising. But he’s also launching the campaign as he plans to retain his seat in Congress should the primary effort come up short in September.

The congressional district has been considered a battleground in recent election cycles.
