Former New York City Comptroller John Liu is launching a second bid for the state Senate seat held by Queens Democrat Tony Avella and is receiving a boost from Empire State Indivisible to give him ballot status.

Liu, a former mayoral candidate in 2013, would be the latest Democrat to challenge a former member of the since-dissolved Independent Democratic Conference in the state Senate.

Avella joined the conference in 2014 and the IDC later dissolved in April amid a reunification push for Democrats in the state Senate.

The Indivisible group is coordinating a “massive volunteer petitioning push” for Liu this weekend to help him challenge Avella on Sept. 13.

Avella would be the latest former IDC member to receive a primary, challenges that have not abated since the conference folded.
