Rochester Mayor Lovely Warren and Assembly Majority Leader Joe Morelle on Wednesday endorsed Democratic attorney general candidate Letitia James, adding to the slate of elected officials endorsing her bid for the open seat.

James, the New York City public advocate, is running in a Sept. 13 Democratic primary, a four-way race that includes Zephyr Teachout, Rep. Sean Patrick Maloney and Leecia Eve.

“Tish James has been a tireless advocate for New Yorkers throughout her entire career,” Warren said in a statement. “New Yorkers need an Attorney General who will never shy away from fighting for our rights or standing up to forces that try to move us backwards, including the Trump administration. I know that Tish is that candidate and I am proud to endorse her for Attorney General.”

Morelle, the Assembly majority leader, is running for the congressional seat held by the late Rep. Louise Slaughter.

“Tish James is a fighter for those who need a fighter most. From her days as a public defender, to her tenure as an Assistant Attorney General, to her work in elected office, Tish has been an exemplary public servant,” he said. “She’ll make a great Attorney General who looks out for New Yorkers in every corner of our state. I am proud to endorse Tish James and urge all New Yorkers to support Tish for Attorney General.”

Additional endorsements were announced by Monroe County Clerk Adam Bello and the county’s Democratic Committee Chairwoman Jamie Romeo.
