Democratic congressional candidate Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez on Monday endorsed state Senate hopeful Alessandra Biaggi.

Both the Queens-Bronx House seat and the Senate seat overlap.

“I’m proud to endorse Alessandra Biaggi for New York State Senate in District 34, which we share as part of Congressional District 14,” Ocasio-Cortez said. “Alessandra’s been knocking doors nonstop on issues of housing, jobs, and climate. She’ll be a powerful Democratic voice in the State Senate.”

Biaggi is hoping for some parallel success in her primary against Sen. Jeff Klein, the former leader of the now-defunct Independent Democratic Conference.

Ocasio-Cortez defeated Rep. Joe Crowley in an upset congressional primary in June, bringing her nationwide attention.

In a statement, Biaggi called Ocasio-Cortez’s victory “an example of what can be done by relying on the energy of the people, rather than special interests.”
