Republican Sen. Carl Marcellino on Tuesday was endorsed by the Patrolmen Benevolent Association of New York City, his campaign announced.

“Your commitment to addressing the issues affecting New York City police officers is well recognized, and it will be an honor to have your representing our members in the Senate,” said PBA President Pat Lynch. “We look forward to working with you toward our shared goal of a stronger, safer New York.”

Marcellino is running for re-election in a hotly contested race against Democrat Jim Gaughran, a rematch from two years ago.

“It’s an honor to receive the endorsement of the PBA of NYC, and I’m proud that law enforcement officers unions from all over the state have put their confidence in my leadership,” Marcellino said. “Those who risk their safety to protect New Yorkers deserve to have a voice in Albany who cares about them and public safety. I am proud to be that voice.”
