From the Morning Memo:

Suffolk County is turning to outside counsel to investigate the behavior of the county’s former personnel director, Alan Schneider.

“We are proceeding with outside counsel to investigate the activities of a former employee,” said Lisa Black, the deputy county executive.

Suffolk County Executive Steve Bellone on Friday announced the appointment of Jo-Anne Taormina to the personnel director post, which has wide-ranging power over government appointments at the village, town and county level. Schneider’s six-year term had expired days earlier.

Taormina’s appointment to a six-year term for the job is expected to be challenged in court this week by the towns of Babylon and Brookhaven. Babylon Supervisor Richard Schaffer, the Suffolk County Democratic chair, has been at odds politically with Bellone over the last several years.
