Cuomo To Fundraise For Katz In Queens DA Race
From the Morning Memo:
Gov. Andrew Cuomo will appear at a June 10 fundraiser for Queens district attorney candidate Melinda Katz, who is competing for the Democratic nomination in a crowded primary field.
Cuomo’s appearance at the fundraiser for Katz, the Queens borough president, comes as Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez has stumped for Tiffany Cabán in recent days and urged contributions to her campaign. Cabán has received endorsements from a range of progressive groups and figures during the primary.
Katz has received the backing of prominent Democrats in New York City politics, including Assembly Speaker Carl Heastie and Brooklyn Borough President Eric Adams.
Cuomo last month at a ribbon cutting ceremony at JFK Airport praised Katz’s time in office.
“Melinda Katz is from a different cast of elected official,” he said. “Elected officials tend to shy away from controversy and you can’t have change without disruption and disruption brings controversy. And politicians tend to play it safe. Melinda Katz is a different breed. We have done great things all throughout Queens that have caused disruption but have made the Borough a better Borough. And that’s what she was elected to do and that’s what she’s done.”
The primary will be held June 25.
