A group that is pushing for the approval of a bill legalizing gestational surrogacy this month has launched a digital campaign to support the legislation.

The ads feature a single father whose son was born through surrogacy as well as women who have struggled with infertility.

“All New Yorkers deserve the chance to create a family,” said The Rev. Stan J. Sloan, CEO of Family Equality Council, the organization spearheading the Protecting Modern Families Coalition.

“The powerful journeys of Dennis, Marisa and Shilpa are reminders of the pain and struggle that so many go through to have children. It’s time to protect all modern families and end the state’s outdated ban on surrogacy.”

The campaign comes as Gov. Andrew Cuomo has listed the issue as a top priority for him in the final weeks of the legislative session this year. The measure has raised concerns, however, among some women advocates who are worried about the potential for exploitation of women as well as the Catholic Church.
